INSIDE AND OUT: AN INDIANA STEEL MILL

"The steel mill represents American might. It’s an icon for an industrial age falling between the eras of enlightenment and information;  a symbol of a time when the United States manufactured machines that became instruments of our Manifest Destiny. Steel companies generally don’t open their doors to journalists or artists to let them observe the inner workings of their mills. California artist Ming C. Lowe was given two eight-hour days to explore the interior of a steel mill in Indiana...Lowe entered this mythic steel mill like an explorer traversing an extra-terrestrial world.
